Busy couple of weeks. Work has been sucking my life away. I was refused my Vista exam because I didn't have photo ID. My workmates are enjoying that one.

After getting over a bout of pretty heavy bronchial infection, I've been back in the gym. The session before I got ill, I was at 193lbs. I made 190lbs a week later, despite doing no training at all. All down to careful food intake.

Today's workout was major. An hour of hard cardio on the cross trainer after a few miles cycling. We did what's called a 'fast' cardio, last time out too. This is where no food is eaten prior to doing the workout, so get out of bed, go straight to gym and push it to the limit.

The reason for this, is that the body starts to burn the energy in the fat store quicker. To counter some of the negative effects of this, it's a good idea to drink one of those high energy drinks, like Lucozade Sport, Gatoraid in the US, I think.

This stocks up the glycerin store, which is burned off in the warmup cycle. Then the cross trainer takes on the main fat store, but won't eat into muscle as much.

After the session, it's good to have a banana or two, plus some high sugary carbs. The best route is a whey protein shake, taken with sugary liquids, because the carbs allow the protein to be transported to the places the body is needing it most more efficiently.

A person could eat lots of protein after a good workout and see no gains if they don't have enough carbs.

Another 8lbs and I can start on the serious muscle building. Looking at my form, I can see that all the flab on the arms, legs and around the neck has gone already. A little has started to come off the belly, which means this next 8 will all be from the belly.

After I hit bottom weight, I'll be on the rowing machine, with free weights, dead lifts and leg press being the main focus.

In between gym sessions, situps and pressups every other day are the order. One thing I've learned from the bigger guys, is that the muscle devlops more during the rest period in between workouts. The more often a muscle is worked, the less time is has to grow.

Soon, I'll be on 30 minutes bike with an hour cardio, finished with a slow walk, followed a couple days after by a heavy weights session.

Target weight will be 196lbs, with 8% body fat and a BMI of around 25. I can get away with the higher BMI because it will be mostly muscle and not extra fat weighing on the body.

At which point, I will be able to punch through steel plates and fly. lol

Sounds like you have your ducks in a row there, and know exactly what you need to do to accomplish your mission.

I am happy you are no longer sick, and sympathize with the frustration you may have by being refused the Vista exam.

I've actually monitored his success throughout. I'm a bit peeved that he didn't do a photo documentation to show progress, but the first thing we saw was the chin and jawline emerge and look sculpted again. His face narrowed and the musculature became more evident in upper chest and upper arms.

Today, his stomach looks almost completely flat and there are cuts along the lower ribs. He's looking healthier and feeling stronger. I'm simultaneously proud of him and disgusted that men can do this so much more quickly than women. :)

wait wait ... muscles develop most at the period between workouts. Soooooo if you work out just once a year, they would have the best chance to grow eh
